Twins for Mr Darcy by J. Dawn King ★★★★★

Image
Jane Bingley dies in childbirth and her grief maddened husband, Charles is soon lost in a riding accident.  This leaves orphaned Charlie and Clara, to the care of their heartbroken aunt, Elizabeth Bennet.  She and her family have little legal standing and the vultures are circling, seeking to claim the Bingley fortune and the Bingley heir.  Enter Fitzwilliam Darcy, sometime friend of Charles. Although estranged, Darcy is the person Bingley contacts for aid in his grief. Darcy arrives at Netherfield Park to offer support to Charles, only hours after his death. Suddenly, the burden of responsibility is so much greater. Elizabeth Bennet dislikes Darcy. On his previous visit to Netherfield his behaviour was haughty and arrogant. When she learns that he plans to take the twins into his care, she is hostile and scared. Darcy has long admired Elizabeth and is shocked that she finds him thoroughly objectionable. The Court of Chancery will not grant guardianship to a single woman,...

River of Dreams by J Dawn King ★★★★★

Fitzwilliam Darcy's father was a cold and distant man who instilled in his son a sense of duty and responsibility.  Darcy was raised to believe that he must always put the needs of his family and his estate first. This burden has weighed heavily on Darcy throughout his life, and it has made him aloof and guarded. Unfortunately, only three members of his family were loving and supportive.   Georgiana, his little sister loves him but is cowed by her haughty father.   Richard Fitzwilliam, his cousin is as close as a brother but duty to the Crown calls him away.   Lady Anne Darcy was a sweet and loving mother who drowned in a freak accident. Her death left Darcy with a long lasting fear of water. When Darcy visits Hertfordshire, he meets Elizabeth Bennet and insults her! Fortunately, Darcy apologies and Elizabeth accepts. Elizabeth is burdened by revelations of just how poor a father, Mr Bennet is and what it might cost the whole family.   During...

Field of Dreams: A Pride and Prejudice Variation by J. Dawn King. ★★★★★

When Thomas Bennet is confined to his bed with a lingering but terminal illness, the Longbourn estate is left without management. He has no son to assist him, but a wife and five daughters to fret over. Due to an entail, Longbourn will belong to a distant cousin upon Bennet’s death and the Bennet women will be homeless. Fortunately, his second eldest daughter, Elizabeth is smart, determined and resilient. At only twenty, with no education in land management, Elizabeth takes on the care of Longbourn, with not only very little support but having to actively repel the many circling vultures. Family, friends and neighbors all prove themselves faithless, greedy and venal. Mr Darcy of Pemberley is known to be a trustworthy and capable landowner, who took on the responsibility at a young age. Elizabeth writes to him as E.R. Bennet, explaining the difficulties being faced and requesting advice. Darcy is happy to assist the young “man” and correspondence follows. Elizabeth moves forward with ...

Mistaken Identity by J. Dawn King ★★★★★

Image
After two attempts on his life by a female assassin, Fitzwilliam Darcy is understandably perplexed. When he seeks sanctuary with his friend Charles Bingley at his new estate in Meryton, he is shocked to meet the assassin or someone who looks very like her. So begins a tale of several mistaken identities, murder, false accusation, duplicity, betrayal and all-round peril. This is such a great story! The mystery is compelling and the relationship between Elizabeth and Darcy is adorable. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
