Swell My Song by Lyndsay Constable. ★★★★☆

Thomas Bennet believes that his wife has the power of a Siren! For why else would the studious, erudite man have married the feather-brained Fanny Gardner? He insists that his daughters must never sing before male company or servants, for infatuation might lead to compromise.  Elizabeth Bennet doesn't believe a word of it but reluctantly agrees to do her best to obey her father. For five years she keeps her word, until she is forced to sing at the insistence of the demanding Lady Catherine de Bourgh.   The charming Colonel Fitzwilliam seems immune to her charms, while Fitzwilliam Darcy positively despises her. What could possibly go wrong? When Darcy visits the Hunsford Parsonage to propose, Elizabeth stops him and tries to convince him that he has been bewitched. Darcy pleads for the chance to court Elizabeth and the ensuing interactions are appealing and fun.  A little obstacle on the way provides an appropriate seasoning of angst. A Lover's Fine Eye by Lyndsay Constable. ★★★★★

Elizabeth Bennet’s much anticipated trip to Kent, gets only as far as London, when one of the party becomes unwell.  Elizabeth joins her sister Jane, at the house of their Aunt and Uncle Gardner. They are thrown into the company of acquaintances, Mr Bingley, who Jane admires and Mr Darcy, who Elizabeth despises. They also meet Darcy’s sister Georgiana, who becomes a cherished friend. A bizarre treasure hunt for paste jewellery and the machinations of a blackguard, result in poor Georgiana being publicly accused of theft. Although the accusation is quickly withdrawn, gossip continues. Darcy and Elizabeth join forces to smoke out the true villain.  Along the way, Elizabeth and Darcy get to know each other better, argue frequently and fall in love. Lyndsay Constable’s latest novella, her third book, is equally delightful as her previous works. Lyndsay Constable has become an author whose works I consider essential reading. An Excellent Walker by Lyndsay Constable. ★★★★★

Whilst walking on the Rosings estate, Elizabeth Bennet literally runs into Fitzwilliam Darcy (a man she views as haughty and arrogant). She reluctantly accepts his offer to escort her back to the Hunsford Parsonage. Their journey is interrupted by a shocking threat from the skies. Suddenly propriety and misunderstandings are irrelevant. Survival becomes their only priority. First, they must deal with a violent enemy, then Elizabeth must use her knowledge of healing to keep Darcy alive. The couple also wrestle with the consequences of spending two nights together in the woods. The story ranges from gripping suspense, angst, sorrow and of course, a happy ever after! This is really good. I enjoy ODC in peril, especially from Napoleon. Lyndsay Constable is fast becoming a favourite author. Never Inconstant: a Sequel to Jane Austen's Persuasion by Lyndsay Constable. ★★★★★

Anne Elliott had been persuaded by Lady Russell, to give up her engagement to Frederick Wentworth for reasons that seemed logical at the time. For eight years she kept him in her heart. Frederick kept her in his heart, as a lost and anguished memory. Eventually they met again and after several obstacles, married. Now, years into her very happy marriage she finds a bundle of letters addressed to her, in Frederick’s sea-trunk. The letters contain an outpouring of grief, yearning, loneliness and heartbreak. Written, but never sent during their eight-year separation. The result is a gentle story of love, angst and steadfast devotion. I heartily recommend that you read this book!
