Excellent Set in a Regency England with a large population of dragons. This is book six of Maria Grace's Jane Austen's Dragons series and follows directly on from book five, The Dragons of Kellynch. In book five, Ann Elliott of Kellynch, developed the ability to hear dragons. This opened up a whole new world to her. She also discovered that it was something that she had in common with her erstwhile love, Captain Wentworth. Ann takes on the role of Keeper of the dragon, Kellynch. Her father has neglected his duties to the dragon and there is much damage to repair. Fortunately, the dragon is currently hibernating. This gives Ann a breathing space, but things get rapidly out of hand The main characters are Ann Elliott and Frederick Wentworth both working in service of the Blue Order, which governs all things dragon. If you choose to read the entire series, the order should be; book four, A Proper Introduction to Dragons, then books one, two and three. You need to read books one, two and three to get the entire story. Elizabeth has to cope with the fallout of her displacement from Longbourn, while investigating mysteries at Netherfield and tracking a devious rogue dragon. The main characters are Elizabeth Bennet, Fitzwilliam Darcy and Colonel Fitzwilliam all working in service of the Blue Order. Elizabeth and Darcy become closer. Mr Bennet continues to disappoint Elizabeth and Mr Collins finally demonstrates some redeeming qualities. This is an enjoyable conclusion to the series. Verant weaves the familiar romance of Elizabeth and Darcy, with delightful strands of mystery regarding the surprising origins of draca, powerful women and a battle with evil and Napoleon's forces. The characters are those you would expect to meet in a Pride & Prejudice variation, with a rather famous addition. For the most part, they do not deviate from expected behaviour. Mary's character stands out as a campaigning woman, fighting slavery and "the patriarchy". She is a rugged individualist and very appealing for it. The prologue commences with a 1789 news report of the tragic kidnapping of Fitzwilliam Darcy, infant son of a wealthy and well-connected family. It is reminiscent of the high-profile Lindbergh baby case. The baby’s mother grieves, languishes and dies of a broken heart. His father, George Darcy continues alone, tormented by the burden of his double loss. Chapter one moves us ahead to Hertfordshire, in 1811. William Lucas is the adult son of Sir William Lucas. He has a warm circle of friends and is well liked in the local area. He has an “understanding” with his best friend, Elizabeth Bennet and they keenly await her next birthday when they can become betrothed. Delightful This novella provides a glimpse into the future, 200+ years after the end of Tempt Me. So lovely to see Elizabeth and Darcy again, together with the many descendents of their friends and family. The focus is on their daughter Georgiana and her seemingly hopeless quest for true love. Delightful! Delightful story as Ann Elliott of Kellynch (Persuasion) develops the ability to hear dragons. This opens a whole new world to her. Elizabeth gets a head injury, which causes amnesia. Strangely, the only person she forgets is Darcy. Distressing for Darcy. Doubly so, as she was on her way to their wedding, when she lost her memory. Despite his anguish, Darcy does everything possible to help and support Elizabeth. This is Darcy at his adorable best. Add in an attempted murder to solve and some scary insights into Regency mental healthcare. With several suspects from our usual cast of characters and some delightful new heroes. Awesome A compelling story of passion, magic and treachery. Darcy and Elizabeth are drawn to each other, with steamy results. Miss Bingley is a bitch, Wickham is appallingly vile. Excellent The day after the Hunsford proposal, news comes of the sudden death of Mr and Mrs Bennett. Elizabeth and her sisters face an uncertain future. Unsurprisingly, Elizabeth is outraged when her uncle accepts. The first meeting of Elizabeth and Darcy is fraught with anger and distress. We learn that the Hunsford proposal was made even more distressing than the canon verbal interaction. In the 2005 Pride and prejudice film, there is a moment when Darcy looks seconds away from kissing Elizabeth, at the height of their passionate argument. In this story, not only does Darcy forcibly kiss Elizabeth, her gown is torn in the ensuing struggle. So Darcy has a long way to go to gain Elizabeth's trust and affection. Darcy slowly and carefully works to earn her respect, while helping save Longbourn. As he unbends, he shows the Bennett sisters how amiable and funny he can be.
