The Scarred Duchess by Barry S Richman. ★★★★★

The Scarred Duchess is Barry S Richman's second Pride and Prejudice variation.  It is just as compelling as his first, Doubt Not, Cousin. The saga spans several generations, but focuses on the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Here, Thomas Bennet is a second son and a soldier. He is smart, well connected and worldly wise. Valuable strengths when he inherits Longbourn from his elder brother.  The five Bennet daughters are raised well and protected carefully. However, Jane's betrothal to Lord Lambrook, exposes her to the violent machinations of a greedy, desperate aristocrat.  A carriage accident, engineered to kill Lord Lambrook and his father, the Earl, finds Jane instead. She survives, but is badly scarred. The book follows both Jane's and Society's response. A great story, full of love, angst and adventure.
